High Winds, Saturated Pitch, Will That Stop Us?
By mike kemp
Bakers came to Basildon, knowing it was going to be a physical game. The conditions were not ideal, the strong cross wind in addition to the saturated grounds, it meant only one thing. Everyone was going to be cold and wet after the game.
Bakers started the game strongly, scoring a try within the first few minutes. Ben Davis went over with the first points. Basildon come back a strong attack however, Bakers manged to keep Basildon out. Several times Bakers found themselves camped on their line but managed to get out every time! This was frustrating for the home team as you could hear the players start to bicker and pick fights.
The second half started with both teams up and down the pitch, Bakers kept finding space through the middle. They found them selves with ample space, if it was not for Basildons winger, the try tally would have been a lot higher.
After a good Bakers move, Lee Howard found himself with a 40 meter run and with 4 players in front of him. Lee Howard took it upon himself to run through these players, and score a great try!
Two minutes later Lee Howard found himself again in the same position. With on millimetres from the touch line, Lee Howard managed to out pace the Basildon winger and full back to run in his second of the game.
Bakers was not done, Tries from Jack Courtney and another from Ben Davis left Bakers with a good lead into the final stages of the game.
It must be noted that Ben Jones (second Row) managed to kick the ball 30 yards across the pitch but 10 yards behind him!
Later stages of the game, Bakers dropped a gear, this allowed Baslidon to score two tries in the final 10 minutes.
Bakers are in the best position to take the league title at this time, with only 3 games left, its all still to play for. Bakers host Burnham on Feb 16th. 230 pm kick off.
MOM Lee Howard.
