See what news is coming out of the club as the new season approaches

Returning to the Merit tables last season Bakers were looking to put in some good performances after a tricky second half of the season in Essex 1 in 2017/18. Starting Pre season with lower numbers Bakers battled to pick up results. Following an early defeat in October Bakers went on a 14 game un beaten run which eventually saw them lift the league title. As the season grew confidence grew in the club and in the team with some tricky selection decisions coming.

Coach and Chairman Matt Barritt oversaw the progress of the side and said “we moved into the second half of the season; the title was ours to lose. Each game was a cup final and we showed we wanted the title!” The last 2 games were a great way to close the season edging out second placed Chingford away in front of a large crowd snatching the game on the last play and wrapping up at home in convincing fashion beating Eton Manor 43-7.

Chingford proved to be a fruitful venue for Bakers last season with the under 16’s side picking up their first silverware coming runners up in the Howard Hartley final in November. This was followed by the minis who also enjoyed another season of positives on the pitch.

Bakers senior side look forward to stepping up to the into Merit 2 this year with new opposition to play and a chance to see new players step up with the colts side producing players to hopefully join the side towards the end of the season. The hard work has already started to prepare for the up coming season. Another season always begins with its new challenges but excitement is high that we can once again look to bring through some homegrown players into the side and help ensure the growth and sustainability of the club.
